At least six people were injured Saturday night during a shooting in downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee, police said.

Local police officers were patrolling downtown around 10:48 p.m. yesterday when they saw multiple people exchanging gunfire and numerous people fleeing the area “near 100 Cherry St.

“Our officers began rendering aid to victims and helping others to safety,” a police spokesman said.

“They were able to apprehend at least one person of interest in the incident in the moments after the shooting began.”

According to police, several shooting victims were transported to local hospitals. Two people suffered life-threatening injuries.

Most of the victims were in their teens or early 20s, police said.

“We had large groups of minors walking around downtown on this date and we believe it was within that group that the shooting occurred,” a police spokesman said.
