At least six dead and six missing in bus accident in the Andes of Peru

At least six dead and six missing left the fall from a bus in which more than 30 passengers were traveling towards a river after rolling down a ravine in Áncashregion of the central Andes of Peru.

“Six deaths and six missing are reported due to the accident and overturning of a bus,” indicated the Ancash Regional Health Directorate.

“According to the latest report, there are 32 people injured. With respect to the missing people, the area’s police unit is in search and rescue,” the institution added.

The vehicle, with more than 30 passengers on board, had left Lima heading to the city of Pomabamba.

Before reaching his destination he rushed over an abyss of about 150 meters and fell into a river in the province of Mariscal Luzuriaga, in the Áncash region, about 430 kilometers northeast of Lima.

Emergency teams and local authorities carry out rescue efforts in the difficult-to-access area.

The regional director of Health, Ricardo Natividad, assured that all possible efforts are being made to provide help and care to those affected.

Accidents on Peruvian roads are frequent due to excess speed, poor road conditions, lack of signage and little control by the authorities.
