AREQUIPA, Peru – A traffic accident that occurred in Rejondones de Báguanos, province of Holguín, left at least one dead and six injured this Saturday morning.
A report of state newspaper Now indicates that a cargo truck and a light car were involved in the accident.
All the injured were transferred to the Lucía Íñiguez clinical surgical hospital. According to official information, among those affected are Luis Miguel Figueredo Peña, 23 years old; Edecio Vallas Durán, 55 years old; Luis Ramón Lugo Almaguer, 24 years old; and Yandel Gael del Río, 34 years old.
For its part, the eight-year-old girl Daliannis Samantha Lugo, a resident of Barajagua, municipality of Cueto, is being treated at the Octavio de la Concepción de la Pedraja pediatric hospital.
Of the five admitted, three are reported to be critical, of which two underwent surgery and one with severe head trauma is in the emergency therapy room with intensive treatment; Two others are in the process of being reviewed with head trauma and a simple clavicle fracture.
The authorities investigate the causes of the incident, of which no other details have emerged.
On the morning of this December 7, another collision between two trains was also reported in the vicinity of the so-called Elevado de Guayos, a town in the municipality of Cabaiguán, province of Sancti Spíritus.
A report from the state media Escambray indicates that the collision occurred between a freight train coming from the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM) bound for Camagüey and another originating from Ciego de Ávila in which six wagons with crude oil destined to be processed at the refinery were transported. As a result of the accident, damage was reported to both machinery and to one of the wagons that transported fuel, which caused the product to spill.
Authorities in the province went to the scene of the incident and are investigating its causes. So far no injuries or deaths have been reported.
