At least four people killed by intense rains in Anzoátegui

The governor of Anzoátegui state, Luis José Marcano, confirmed Thursday night the death of four people in the northern part of Anzoátegui state.

In his report offered after 11 p.m., Marcano explained that as a result of the intense rains recorded throughout the afternoon and night, associated with the passage of Tropical Wave No. 49, some 300 homes were severely affected, a little more in quantity. of affected families, damage to infrastructure and closure of roads.

The regional president reported that the situation “has had a serious impact, particularly in the Guanta and Sotillo municipalities, even though there are also effects on some communities in the Simón Bolívar municipality, specifically in Barcelona.”

In his report he highlighted that in Guanta a child died due to the detachment of an avalanche that fell on one of the walls of the house, generating the tragic situation.

He commented that in Sotillo, in the Valle Verde sector (upper area of ​​Puerto La Cruz), the death of three people was recorded as a result of the landslide and stones along Fermín Toro and Bolívar streets, also affecting a significant number of homes.

Due to the high amount of sediment in those streets, he said that there is a deployment of machinery from the mayor’s office, from the different government agencies and from the Bolivarian National Armed Forces.

Regarding the effects in that sector of Buenos Aires, the governor also referred that more than 300 families were evicted and that they are in solidarity shelters of family and friends, who are provided with the necessary social care.

Damage to drainage and road infrastructure

He mentioned that there are also damages of an infrastructure nature, and in that sense he highlighted the detachment of one of the screens of the embaulación of the La Culebra creek, in Guanta, in the Puente Colombia sector, which represents a risk for the houses that are adjacent .

He also indicated that there is ongoing evaluation and work to address this situation.

He said that in another sector of the ravine, in La Acequia, the fall of a large Jabillo tree constitutes another risk because it can obstruct the passage of water and overflow into other sections of the canal, which is more than 5 kilometers long. .

Regarding this fact, the Police of the Guanta municipality reported the eviction of two houses that suffered damage after the tree fell and the people were transferred to the EPS Cacique Toronoima.

The regional president also mentioned that on the Troncal 9 national highway, at the height of Pertigalete, a road that connects the states of Anzoátegui and Sucre, a sewer gave way, which has forced the passage to be closed to proceed with its reconstruction.

Work to clear spaces

The governor of Anzoátegui specified that the situation is being addressed and work has begun, where conditions allow, to clear the spaces with the support of the mayors of Guanta and Sotillo.

He reported that in the most affected territories there is no electricity service for prevention reasons.

Marcano announced that from the early hours of this Friday the work will continue and that “President Nicolás Maduro is attentive to the situation and managing all the necessary conditions and resources to be able to avoid major damage and reverse the damage that from the point of view of material view have occurred”.

He expressed feelings of sorrow to relatives and friends of the deceased.

Victims identified

Police sources reported that the victims in Valle Verde were identified by relatives as Anaile Vargas (33 years old), Raizi Márquez Brito (62) and Yilda Yegüez (28).
Unofficially it was learned that there are reports of missing persons and that the rescuers are deployed in search tasks, so they do not rule out that the number of deceased rises in the Sotillo municipality.

While in the Cerro Oriente de la Picha sector, Guanta municipality, only the death of a two-year-old boy was reported, identified in the local clinic as Juan Robert Estiven Sánchez.

Enable maritime bridge between Anzoátegui and Sucre

The National Institute of Aquatic Spaces (INEA) reported that as of November 4, a provisional sea bridge between Cumaná and Guanta will be activated with the vessel of the “Playa Colorada” Aquatic Passenger Transport (TAP) project.

In the publication via social networks it is mentioned that the cities of the states of Sucre and Anzoátegui, “were cut off by land due to the impact of heavy rains on the highway.”

The monohull ship will set sail from Cumaná at 9 in the morning and will return from Guanta at 2 in the afternoon.
