Traffic accidents represent a recurring problem in Cuba. According to official data, in 2022 more than 9,400 traffic accidents were reported in the country, with a death toll of 700 and around 7,000 injured. The main causes include the poor condition of the roads, the age of the vehicles, and in some cases, the recklessness of the drivers. In Ciego de Ávila, accidents are common on rural roads such as the one that connects Morón with Turiguanó, where the road conditions and the high traffic of heavy vehicles increase the risks.
