The Police managed to recover 30 vehicles that had been stolen in the first days of 2025.
The Bogotá Metropolitan Police revealed that 97 cases of vehicle thefts have already been reported so far in the month of Januarythat is, about five cases of stolen vehicles a day in the city.
The vast majority of vehicle thefts occur in the form of pulling, where criminals take advantage of the owners’ carelessness and take the vehicles without leaving any type of trace.

The authorities also stated that tCases in which criminals rob drivers have also increased.
“Last year at that time we had 197 stolen vehicles and to date we have 97, which shows that we have a reduction of this scourge. We design a strategy with the purpose of counteracting this crime and We ask citizens not to leave their vehicles on public roads, because they can be stolen by pulling,” said Colonel Eduardo Cruz, operational commander of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police.
The Bogotá Metropolitan Police indicated that 20 vehicles and 11 motorcycles have been recovered. The authorities stressed that In the first days of January, 102 fewer robberies have been recorded than in 2024evidencing a 51% decrease in this crime.
“So far in 2025 and thanks to the different prevention and control plans, 33 people have been captured in flagrante delicto for the crimes of vehicle theft, trademark falsification and receipt. On the other hand, these vehicles would be valued at 1.3 billion pesos,” the officer indicated.

The towns most affected by vehicle theft are Puente Aranda, Engativá, Kennedy and Fontibón. The authorities reiterated to citizens that these events must be reported, in order to continue attacking the gangs dedicated to this crime.
