At least eight dead in apparent confrontation between Ecuadorian gangs

A third confrontation between gangs so far in June occurred on Sunday in Ecuador, leaving at least eight dead and five wounded, reported the Police.

“It is presumed that it would be clashes between criminal groups, which left 8 people dead and 5 injured,” the institution said through a WhatsApp press chat.

The clashes between criminal gangs occurred in the coastal town of La Concordia (west).

Ecuador has faced in recent years high rates of violence linked to drug trafficking, to which have been added kidnappings for extortion with cruelty.

The clashes between gangs that the market and the routes for the traffic are disputed of drugs they leave hundreds of deceased in the streets and jails. Prisoners of these organizations have carried out massacres that have come to be among the worst in Latin America.

Last Monday, an armed attack left six dead and eight injured in the streets of the port of Guayaquil (southwest), the Ecuadorian city hardest hit by drug trafficking, which uses it for its activities due to its strategic location.

On June 4 there was another attack against a house in Guayaquil, with a balance of five deaths, including a police officer, and eight wounded.
