At least 38 people died during Holy Week in Nicaragua

At least 38 people died during the Easter holidays in Nicaragua, the National Police and the Nicaraguan Red Cross reported Monday.

Thirty of the deaths were caused by traffic accidents, seven by homicide and one by drowning, according to the information.

During the holiday, in which five million people traveled through the country’s different roads, mainly those on the Pacific beaches, 975 traffic accidents were recorded, leaving 30 dead and 32 injured, according to the police report. .

The National Police also received 904 complaints of crimes and registered seven homicides and 42 robberies with intimidation.

Likewise, it seized 81.3 kilos of cocaine, 30 kilos of marijuana, 32 firearms, and 365 sharp weapons.

The Nicaraguan Red Cross, for its part, reported a death due to submersion in the spas where they provided the service.

Health authorities have not yet released the number of deaths from drowning during Holy Week.

A total of 48 people died during the Holy Week holiday last year due to traffic accidents (20), drowning (20), homicides (5), parricide (1), suicide (1) and that of a minor that fell from a tree.
