At least 30 people were hospitalized, and two of them in serious condition were evacuated by helicopter. after a train crash that occurred this Friday in Buenos Aires, authorities from the city’s emergency service SAME reported.

Firefighters evacuated the train carrying passengers and it collided with another maintenance train in the Palermo neighborhood of the Argentine capital.

“We have no fatalities, the dogs have ‘combed’ (inspected) the carriages, We have assisted 90 passengers, 30 of whom were transferred to hospitals, two of them with head trauma who were evacuated by helicopter,” Alberto Crescenti, head of SAME, told the press at the scene.

The accident occurred at 10:30 a.m. local time (1:30 p.m. GMT) when an urban train with passengers on the General San Martín railway line collided with another maintenance train that, for reasons under investigation, was stopped, according to initial reports.

“For now there is not enough information about the mechanics of the accident,” said the mayor of Buenos Aires, Jorge Macri, present at the scene.

About 60 ambulances, six motorcycles and two helicopters participated in the evacuation operation, SAME said.
