The president of the Single Teachers’ Union in Monagas, Darío Lima, assured that at least 1,500 teachers were removed from the payroll of the Ministry of Education due to “overload.”
“They removed approximately fifteen hundred and then at the national level the Minister of Education ordered all the heads of personnel in the educational zone to do an audit,” Lima said in statements to Radio Union.

Despite this, more than 3,500 teachers in the Guárico state were suspended from their salaries and bonuses, from the second half of October, by the Ministry of Education for the alleged “duality of positions.”

The Venezuelan Federation of Teachers demanded the resumption of the discussion of the collective agreement, an urgent salary adjustment, the recovery of social security, investing in school infrastructure and the implementation of an efficient School Feeding Program.
He also called to eradicate salary bonuses that have no impact on their social benefits. “The teachers received a paltry bonus.”
The president of the Union in Monagas highlighted that, despite the situation, the majority of workers are active in educational institutions. «Many directors and supervisors have already introduced payroll. There is a possibility that these workers, both retired and active, will be reinstated and the pending fortnights will be cancelled,” he added.
In addition, Lima called on the government to meet with the 17 federations to discuss collective contracting before the end of the year.
