At the “Deilys Hernández” Initial Education Center, located in the Cantarrana sector of Lagunitas, Ricaurte municipality of Cojedes state, a new case of alleged mass poisoning with an unknown substance was recorded this Tuesday morning, leaving at least twelve people affected.
It was learned that the staff of said institution alerted the security and protection agencies, to which they immediately went to help three girls, one boy and six adults from the teaching and administrative staff, who were transferred to the “Libertad de Cojedes” Comprehensive Diagnostic Center, Lagunitas for presenting dizziness, fainting and seizure.
Likewise, Civil Protection officials, for the safety of students and staff, evacuated the area and cleared the “María Georgina Betancourt” State Basic School, located 500 meters from the preschool.
The mayor of the town, José Ramón Páez, called on the population to remain calm and follow the instructions of the corresponding authorities, and also reported on the suspension of school activities until Monday in the two affected schools, this as a preventive measure against what happened.
He indicated that when the contingency became known, they activated the emergency protocols and that they are collaborating with the medical teams to guarantee the health and safety of those affected. He highlighted that up to now the exact cause of the contamination is not known and that the local and health authorities have deployed an operation to care for those affected and determine the origin of the poisoning.
He specified that the investigation teams are in the area collecting samples and testimonies to clarify the facts and prevent future incidents. In addition, he pointed out that a work meeting is planned for tomorrow with all the security forces of the municipality, to propose preventive measures in response to what happened.
It should be noted that, with this, there are now two cases that have been reported successively in the week, and another that was registered on September 24 in the Anzoátegui municipality.
