Community and sports leaders from the Independencia neighborhood, at kilometer 14 of the duarte highwaythey requested the Office for the Reordering of Transportation (opret) a sports space in the area where one of the stations of line 2-C of the Santo Domingo Metro is being built.
They reported that for years they have been orphaned from sports because in the neighborhood there is no field, playground or any other space for the recreation of youth, who, according to what they said, many have turned to drugs and crime.
Gilberto Polanco, sports director of the Neighborhood Board from the Independencia neighborhood and president of the Los Peluqueros Sports and Culture Club, understands that if the opret it acquires 200 homes to expand the circulation space of the Metro, it can acquire 202 and leave that space for community works.
“We understand that there will be a lot of space that we can use for a recreation and sports center. There are too many young people here, this is the opportunity, now that homes are being evicted here,” he said.
He informed that they have made the request to the opret and they told them to form a commission, they took letters and they replied that they would take them into account, so they are hoping that the community’s claim will be heard.
For her part, Alaine Rosario, also a sports leader in the sector, stated that young people have to go to other sectors to be able to practice some sport because in hers there are no spaces to make courts, but now that some places are freed up, if they I could build one.
