The Cuban regime has hit another home run. This Wednesday the baseball player Johan Rodríguez, who is already in the Dominican Republic, left the island. According to journalist Francys Romero, “neither the young player nor his family wanted to wait for life conditions to improve in Cuba, which is increasingly mired in crisis.”
Like all athletes who emigrate, Rodríguez will continue his preparation and seek an opportunity in a Major League organization, bearing in mind that once he turns 16, he will be a free agent.
“The official Cuban press has blamed the United States government for the exodus. However, the needs, discouragement and disappointments of family members and players increase every day,” Romero said.
Rodríguez is about to turn 15, but because of his “instincts” and “skills” on the diamond, published the communicator in FR Baseball!“shone in the last U-15 Pre-World Cup with .500 of average (run average) 16-8, two doubles and one triple.”
Rodríguez will continue his preparation and will look for an opportunity in a Major League organization, taking into account that once he turns 16, he will be a free agent.
The man from Santiago had been playing for Havana and had serious chances of joining the team that would travel to Mexico for the U-15 Baseball World Cup, which will be played from August 26 to September 4 next.
Alfredo Fadraga and Yosvani Avalos, The baseball players who saw their escape attempt in Mexico frustrated are still unaware of the disciplinary measures that the Cuban Baseball Federation will impose on them.
A source close to the athletes confirmed to 14ymedio since their return to the island, they remain with their respective families. And none of the players has wanted to speak for fear of some repressive act.
Different is the situation for Brian Chi. This pitcher, one of the 12 players who starred last year biggest sports disaster for the regime, it reached an agreement with the Texas team in the US, although details of the negotiation have not yet been disclosed.
Chi joins Loidel Chapellí Jr., another of the escapees, who debuted last june with the Chicago youth team after a $500,000 deal.
