In an unexpected turn in Argentine politics, the Apolo Foundation has submitted a formal request to the National Social Security Administration (ANSES) to withdraw the former president’s lifetime pension Alberto Fernandez.
The petition is based on the allegation that Alberto Fernandez does not meet the requirements of “merit and honor” necessary to receive this benefit. This request has generated an intense debate in the political and social sphere of the country.
The Apolo Foundation, led by Yamil Santoro, José Magioncalda and Juan Martín Fazio, argues that Alberto Fernández has engaged in conduct that is not compatible with the principles of merit and honor expected of a former president.
Among the reasons cited in the request are the complaint of gender violence filed by his ex-partner, Fabiola Yañez, as well as other incidents during his term, such as the party in Olivos during the pandemic and the VIP vaccination scandal.
One of the most controversial points of the request is the complaint of gender violence filed by Fabiola Yañez. According to the Apolo Foundation, this complaint is clear evidence that Fernández does not meet the requirements of integrity necessary to receive the lifetime pension.
The complaint includes photos and messages that, according to Yañez, demonstrate the abuse suffered during her relationship with the former president. In addition to the complaint of gender violence, the Apolo Foundation cites other incidents that, according to them, demonstrate the lack of merit and honor of Fernandez.
Festivals in Olivos
One of the most notable is the party in Olivos, which took place in the midst of the COVID pandemic, violating the restrictions imposed by the government itself. This event generated great controversy and was seen by many as an act of hypocrisy and disrespect towards citizens.
Another incident mentioned is the VIP vaccination scandal, in which it was discovered that people close to the government received COVID vaccines in a privileged manner, while the majority of the population was still waiting for their turn. This scandal was widely criticized and led to the resignation of several government officials.
