Two euphoric weeks were lived in Guarani land with the XII South American Games in Asunción with innumerable sports experiences and Paraguayan warmth that did not discriminate flags.
ASU 2022 lowered the curtain after 15 days of emotions, under the motto “The dream fulfilled” that was present from the first day of the competitions, the athletes gave their all in this historic event giving the maximum effort and demonstrating the values that they do to the sport, while from the stands they received the applause and the ovations of the spectators.
The sports event distributed a total of 404 gold, 404 silver and 495 bronze medals for a total of 1,303 medals and brought together some 7,000 athletes from some 15 countries.
It is estimated that more than 60,000 tourists came to the country and with it the experience of meeting a local public that always stands out for the cordial treatment of those who visit their land. This was evidenced in the publications of the organizers and videos shared on social networks, in which foreign tourists and athletes highlight the hospitality of Paraguayans.
Given this, Sofía Montiel, minister of the National Secretariat of Tourism (Senatur) stated that the satisfaction survey carried out on visitors at the exit points of the country highlighted the kindness of the Paraguayans, demonstrated during the days of permanence.
They also enjoyed the hotel infrastructure, gastronomy and 67% of those surveyed came to Paraguay for the first time
On the other hand, with regard to the spectators in the sports venues, some 300,000 people followed the development of the event.
PARAGUAYAN MEDAL COUNTER
Some 546 Paraguayan athletes of different modalities competed, raising the national delegation with a historic harvest of 48 medals, plus six that do not add up because they are invited sports.
Diego Galeano, minister of the National Sports Secretariat (SND), mentioned that from the entity that he has to lead they are proud to be part of this great national and international party. “The joy I feel is not for me, but for our athletes,” he stressed.
He added that the Paraguayan athlete in these games showed a great level, effort and patriotism and today, after a long time, he can finally compete in front of his people and family.
“As much as we support them, the merit is theirs, from now on we have to reach children much more through sports, that’s why we decided to relaunch the school games and maybe we can also do the university games,” he said.
INVESTMENT
In order to develop this event, an investment of US$ 80,000 million was made and the organization estimates that the economic spillover throughout the value chain that surrounds the tourism sector is more than US$ 262 million.
