Assumption of the Virgin: how malls and supermarkets will operate this August 15 holiday

Next Thursday, August 15, Chile celebrates the holiday for the Assumption of the Virgin, a Catholic holiday that commemorates the belief in the ascension of Mary, mother of Jesus, to heaven. This day is an important date in the religious calendar, and, as such, many Chileans will have the opportunity to enjoy an additional day off during the week. However, unlike other holidays, this one is not considered non-waivable, which means that commerce, including malls and supermarkets, will continue to operate almost normally.

Although it is not an essential holiday, it is recommended that consumers check the operating hours of their stores. supermarkets and favorite shopping centers, since some establishments could adjust their hours due to the celebration. It is common that, on days like this, the hours remain similar to those of a weekend, but with possible variations depending on the policy of each store.
