The Association of Winemakers of Peru (ABP) expressed its willingness to promote compliance with Law No. 31452 among its partners at the national level, which exempts food from the basic family basket from the general sales tax (IGV).
As part of the commitments adopted, the ABP, in coordination with its partners at the national level, will share with Indecopi information on the prices at which they have been marketing the products covered by the standard, such as chicken, eggs, sugar, pasta and bread, to help verify compliance with the standard.

Meanwhile, the Indecopi representatives explained the scope of the standard, highlighting the importance of its compliance to mitigate the rise in prices, generated by the international economic situation.
In the coming days, Indecopi will continue promoting meetings with associations and monitoring the prices of the products contemplated in the norm in favor of consumers throughout the country.
How to report that the exemption does not apply?
Indecopi provided the following recommendations to report if the IGV exemption is not applied:
Buy in formal establishments, demand a proof of payment and check that it does not charge you the IGV for the exempted products. Remember to keep the proof of payment in your possession to exercise your right as a consumer.
If you verify that the suppliers persist in collecting the IGV (it appears expressly in the proof of payment) they can report it to Indecopi through the following service channels:
- Free “Virtual Claim” service: online.indecopi.gob.pe/reclamavirtual/
- Telephone lines: 224 7777 for Lima, and 0 800 4 4040 for regions.
