Association of Journalists of Peru indicated that the project was his initiative; however, it was still under development and was published without their knowledge.
He College of Journalists of Peru ruled on the questioned Interior Ministry project that seeks to regulate journalistic work during protests that are registered in the framework of the political crisis. In this regard, they pointed out that it was still being prepared, for which reason they regretted that it was published without their knowledge.
The institution specified that the root of this initiative stemmed from a proposal sent to President Dina Boluarte, in the context of the verbal and physical attacks suffered by journalists during their coverage.
“It began immediately: to shape the protocol that allows protecting the integrity and security of journalists and communicators in situations of risk in the exercise of their work,” they maintain in a document.
However, they emphasize that the project of the Ministry of the Interior published this Thursday, March 2, is still being prepared and reviewed. They also specified that they were waiting for a face-to-face meeting so that the Government can collect their contributions.
“We must reject in the most energetic way that the objective of this protocol is to regulate freedom of expression, under police supervision. […] The only thing our order seeks is to guarantee the safety of journalists and communicators without any impairment of the freedom of the press and expression,” they remark.
