MIAMI, United States. — The Assembly of the Cuban Resistance (ARC) condemned this Monday the sinking of the boat in which at least 23 Cubans were trying to flee the country.

The organization, which brings together several opposition organizations both inside and outside Cuba, described the event as a “massacre.”

“We condemn the systematic violence exerted by the Castro dictatorship against the Cuban people, and specifically the massacre of Cubans at sea, as they did with the March 13 Tug,” says a statement issued by the ARC.

The note calls on the United States government and the international community to investigate the incident, which occurred in waters north of Bahía Honda, in the province of Artemisa.

“We urge the international community, the United States government and human rights organizations to demand an independent investigation of the events and to condemn the excessive violence and impunity of the dictatorship’s coast guards.”

The Assembly also offered condolences to the families of the people who died in the incident.

“The Assembly of the Cuban Resistance offers condolences and accompanies in their pain the people of Bahía Honda who attended the funeral procession of the deceased in great numbers,” the message ends.

Until now, the Cuban regime has only limited itself to reporting on the event through an official note signed by the Ministry of the Interior (MININT). In it, it is ensured that it was an accident.

Nevertheless, Diana Meizosomother of a two-year-old girl who lost her life in the sinking, told Radio Television Marti that the boat in which they were going to the United States was intentionally rammed by the island’s coast guards.
