MIAMI, United States. – The Assembly of the Cuban Resistance (ARC) supported the more than 1,000 civic leaders who have signed, from different parts of Cuba, the public letter “We Cubans”, in which they commit to the “national strike of non-cooperation with the dictatorship.”
In the video “The Cuban Workers of the New Times”produced by the Assembly of the Cuban Resistance, compares these leaders with the laborers who fought for the independence of the Island.
According to the ARC, the number of laborers “will continue to increase, as these new hosts that are rising throughout Cuba are increasing and that, from different strategies —sometimes public and sometimes clandestine—, act in support of those who fight against the dictatorship and (…) advance in favor of change”.
They are political opponents, human rights activists, independent trade unionists, ordinary Cubans, “a people rising up civically for the sake of a supreme objective, both of those and these, homeland freedom,” says the Assembly of the Resistance.
The term “laborantes” dates back to the wars for the independence of Cuba, when, from the Mambisa rearguard, an important detachment of patriots operated who, at the risk of their own lives, fought against the Spanish metropolis.
“Today, more than a century later, new hosts of laborers, ordinary Cubans, ex-soldiers, workers, peasants, students, professionals and anonymous activists, as well as relatives of political prisoners, rise up throughout the country. ”, assures the ACR.
The national strike initiative was launched from Cuba by leaders of the internal resistance and political prisoners. It consists of actions such as not cooperating with the regime, taking time off work and taking to the streets to protest whenever possible, as a prelude to a general strike.
