Practically four out of every 10 assemblies to recruit members towards the registration of new political parties have been canceled due to lack of quorumin a context of dispute between militants already registered in current parties.

For the National Electoral Institute (INE), the valid registration will be the most recent, even if the difference between the two is days or hours.

Electoral officials explained to the express consultation that “in the face of the strength of a hegemonic party (Morena)”, the option for the nascent organizations is to “pull” the dissatisfied, especially from the PAN and the PRI.

According to the first exchange of information carried out by the INE, former PRI members and former PAN members are recruited by different groups, especially the one promoted by former INE officials who intend to register the Somos México party, as well as other political leaders who, in the face of electoral reform initiatives during the last six-year term, encouraged the mobilizations identified as pink tideto “defend” the institute. Currently there are 227 attempted assemblies, 141 held (preliminarily valid) and 86 canceled due to lack of quorumas well as 92 thousand 147 affiliations.

But those dissatisfied with Morena are also sought, especially through associations led by those who until recently openly supported the majority bloc.

In that case is Building Peace Societies, encouraged by former members of the Social Encounter Party, related to evangelical churches, with 321 attempted assemblies, 216 held and 105 canceled; They accumulate 126 thousand 693 affiliations.

Likewise, Let democracy continue, a political association formed in 2021 to promote the consultation to revoke the mandate of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, held a year later. Their current preliminary record is 97 attempted assemblies, 60 held and 37 cancelled; In total it has 41,328 affiliations.

Preliminary data from the INE as of this week show that the 12 organizations that submitted their agenda of assemblies (of the 89 registered as interested in participating in this objective) have attempted 707 assemblies, but 272 (38.4 percent) were not endorsed by the INE, precisely due to lack of quorum.

In total, the 12 groups have achieved, together, 435 effective assemblies; If they signed up for state meetings, they must accredit a minimum of 20, with 3 thousand people attending each one. On the other hand, if they opted for district assemblies, they must have 200, with a minimum of 300 attendees per meeting.

Additionally, the groups must accredit a maximum of 256,030 members by next January 31, that is, within three months at most.

Once both requirements (assemblies and members) have been met, they will hold a constitutive national assembly during February and then present their formal registration request to the INE; The body’s general council will issue the verdict between April and May 2026.

In addition to those mentioned, among the 12 organizations that presented an agenda, the Single Opposition Renewal Movement (the preliminary name of the party is MURO), of Fernando González, son-in-law of the former teacher leader Elba Esther Gordillo, is in fourth place, with 23 attempted assemblies, 10 held and 13 canceled, with preliminary membership of only 6,294.

The remaining eight present tiny numbers compared to the goal.
