The Directory of the State Health Services Administration (ASSE), attended the Health and Social Assistance Commissionconvened for the treatment of Bills on Euthanasia and Physician-Assisted Suicide. At the end of the meeting, president of ASSE, Leonardo Cipriani, stated that they do not have a fixed position on these issues, and that the regulations will be complied with if the law is approved.
For its part, the Uruguayan Medical Union (SMU) had issued a statement expressing itself about the legislative process on euthanasia. This explains that to issue said communication, the union considered “the call to the Commission of Public Health and Social Assistance of the House of Representatives to know the union’s position on dignified death and euthanasia.” Also that “the doctor’s right not to perform euthanasia for reasons of conscience (conscientious objection) must be considered. If you do not agree with the patient’s request.
While the Broad Front and Citizens (Colorado Party) promote two projects to legalize euthanasia, there are voices from deputies of the government coalition who resist it. The supporters of the projected norm hope that it will be voted this year in the Chamber after the Rendering of Accounts.
