Asonahores deplores road closures by taxi drivers in Punta Cana

The Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores) deplored the demonstration carried out by traditional taxi drivers and that obstructed traffic in Punta Cana the morning of this Monday, in demand of the regularization of the workers of digital transport platforms.

Asonahores condemned “that actions be taken that violate legal security and the development of tourism freely; and more in an area of ​​such high importance for the country’s tourism as Punta Cana and Bávaro ”.

The entity indicated in a press release that “To obstruct one of the main access routes for the tourist flow in the country is an improper action, which harms the public and threatens the stability of the sector and the development of the country.”

He called all taxi service providers to dialogue, “so that they continue to provide the important function they perform for the benefit of the entire hotel and airport sector in said region, always within the framework of the law and with the priority of guaranteeing safety. citizen and all the visitors and actors involved ”.

Asonahores said that he will continue to participate in the dialogue table together with the tourism cabinet, “which is the place where both taxi service providers and transport service providers through electronic platforms will continue to advance in the regulation necessary to comply with decree 515-21 ”.

Several unions in the tourist area of ​​Verón, Bávaro-Punta Cana, took up positions this Monday at the Coco Loco crossing, as a form of peaceful protest in order to demand that the authorities comply with regulation 515-21, as is stipulated and also to the Law of Mobility, Transportation, Traffic and Road Safety of the Dominican Republic, 63-17.

Santiago Zamora, president of the Dominican Confederation of Tourist Taxis, said that the application of this law and its regulations are what bring peace and tranquility, since it will allow the preservation of the rights acquired for more than 40 years of all taxi drivers. .

The taxi drivers in the area have starred in several incidents with the drivers of the multinational Uber, for control of the territory and customers.
