The Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santosconfirmed that the deadline for the ban on egg exports to Haiti will expire next Wednesday, and will not extend any longer than the Government Dominican ordered the suspension for 15 days.
Santos assured that the measure to prohibit the export of eggs to the neighboring country has been fully complied with, since eggs are not being exported to Haiti, which indicates that the producers have complied with the measure responsibly.
Asohuevos says they continue to pass eggs
On the other side of the coin, the National Association of Producers of Egg (Asohuevo)assured that within the period they have been exporting eggs to Haiti, although not with the same frequency and quantity as before the ban.
“Eggs have been sent to Haiti with special permits on the one hand, and today there was a normal market, that is, that this tends to normalize,” said Escaño.
The president of Asohuevos also maintained that the Government was wrong in ordering this measure.
“They took a measure and made a mistake, but as always you have to come out elegantly when such mistakes are made, since the officials never want to admit it, what they did was that they will lift the measure by Wednesday,” he added.
Prohibition
On January 5, at a press conference at the National Palace, the Government said that the measure had been taken sporadically, to try to level the demand and supply of food, always with the aim of protecting Dominican consumers. before a significant increase that may arise.
The meeting, which was chaired by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader and the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, Víctor -Ito- Bisonó, the Government said that the Dominican is the first and/or largest consumer, so it considers that the right thing to do is to prioritize the local market.
