In dialogue with representatives of the financial sector of Colombia, the Minister of the Interior, Juan Fernando Cristo invited them to join forces around fundamental issues that provide peace of mind and certainty about the institutional future of the country. He said that it was a fruitful conversation that would allow the private sector to add voices to his call for national dialogue.
“In the last week I have spoken with governors, unions, trade unions and now with the banking sector to advance in the great effort to accelerate the implementation of the peace agreement. The private sector is very important for the economic development of the country and that is why we had this space for frank and open dialogue,” said Cristo.

During the meeting, Minister Cristo proposed to the banking sector to play an active role in the development of projects that communities affected by violence will prioritize in the 170 PDET municipalities in the country. In addition, he assured that the goal is to have 16 Territorial Pacts signed by 2025.
“These Social Pacts for Territorial Transformation will be coordinated between national entities, mayors, governors, the private sector and communities and will focus on seven strategic axes: food, territorial planning, health, education, productive transformation, road infrastructure and peace,” emphasized the Minister of the Interior.

He also stressed the need to work on territorial autonomy in collaboration with the financial sector so that regions can use their resources in a more direct and efficient way for development.
For his part, the executive president of Asobancaria, Jonathan Malagón González, said that the Ministry of the Interior and the National Government can wait for all the correspondence from that sector to advance in the implementation of the Agreement.the economic acceleration plan and other issues prioritized by this portfolio.
“We value the democratic attitude of Minister Cristo, who is promoting dialogue, an open invitation, while endorsing the message of President Gustavo Petro, to sit down and talk and build a great national agreement where the private sector plays a very important role.“, Malagón celebrated.

As part of those conclusions, The banking and financial sector also expressed its openness to cooperating to accelerate the implementation of the Agreement. and proposed relaunching the Works for Taxes project to direct more investment to the PDET municipalities.
