This Thursday, the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Republic of Paraguay signed two memorandums in the areas of Prevention of African Swine Fever and Promotion of investment and exports, a Letter of Intent on industrial policy cooperation.
The signing took place within the framework of the visit to Taiwan of the Minister of Industry and Commerce of Paraguay (MIC), Ing. Luis Alberto Castiglioni, accompanied by the Vice Minister of Industry, Ing. Ramiro Samaniego and the Vice Minister of Exports, Ambassador Estefanía Laterza. .
Taiwanese President Dr. Tsai Ing-wen received the Paraguayan delegation today, noting that the Economic Cooperation Agreement between the two countries has stimulated the continuous growth of bilateral trade since it entered into force in 2018. The president hopes to comprehensively deepen, through mutual cooperation, strengthening bilateral relations and jointly promoting prosperity and development that benefit both brother peoples.
In turn, Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu of Taiwan and Minister Castiglioni reiterated the firm friendship between the two countries at yesterday’s meeting, March 30. They will continue to cooperate in bilateral exchanges under the same principles of freedom and democracy.
One of the most important events on the delegation’s agenda was the 21st Taiwan-Paraguay Economic Cooperation Conference that took place this Thursday afternoon.
This meeting gave rise to a series of results, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on technical cooperation for the diagnosis and prevention of African swine fever (ASF), which works on the exchange of technology, knowledge and data between specialists, as well as of workshops and seminars.
The second MOU that has been signed refers to technical cooperation between the Investment and Export Network (REDIEX) and the Trade Development Council (TAITRA). It seeks to promote trade between both nations, through strategies that will give competitiveness to certain products within a framework of export promotion.
Likewise, the signing of a Letter of Intent (LOI) was achieved, which aims to promote cooperation in industrial policy matters between the MOEA of Taiwan and the MIC of Paraguay, in order to further improve the industrial development of Paraguay taking advantage of Taiwan’s experience in economic development, through the exchange of alternatives, recommendations and guidelines to the MIC on the modernization of its industrial policy as a tool for economic development.
