The Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, announced this Monday afternoon the implementation of a comprehensive plan to promote the production and consumption of meat, which includes 30% discounts for purchases in supermarkets in seven beef cuts and refunds 10% to those who pay with a debit card in butcher shops and minimarkets.
The “Fair Meat Prices” planannounced by Massa, along with the Secretaries of Commerce, Matías Tombolini, and of Agriculture, Juan José Bahillo, Its objective is to assist producers affected by the drought, and it will seek the adhesion of beef exporting companies to increase the supply of the seven cuts at differential prices with a predictable price path.
“The drought increased our work and kept the price below inflation, however, the change in the production cycle and the need to recover value, especially in January, and now also, caused an increase in prices ” of bovine meat, Massa said when speaking at the meeting held at the Palacio de Hacienda.
To avoid this escalation, an agreement was formalized with refrigerators and supermarkets so that “as of Friday”, seven cuts of beef are sold “in supermarkets with a 30% discount and a volume that is six times larger” than the current one, Massa explained.
The seven cuts of meat are: roast, buttock, matambre, empty, skirt, shoulder and roast cover.
The commercialization will be carried out every day in supermarkets and hypermarkets and butcher shops of refrigerators. Work will be done with supermarkets located in ASU, CAS and FASA.
Noting that the plan is not limited to large retail chains, the minister remarked that “We also want to reach neighborhood butcher shops, and for them we will offer a 35% discount for those who make purchases on weekends with the Banco Nación card.”
Purchases made at butcher shops and convenience stores that are paid with debit cards will also have a 10% refund from the AFIP, with a cap of $2,000 per transaction.
In the latter case, in addition to the price issue, the idea is that butcher shops “formalize their work.”
“We made the decision to attack the problems we have in the short and medium term, without ceasing to see that we must also increase production” of livestock, Massa stressed.
Tombolini: new program seeks to give consumers certainty in prices and supply of cuts of meat
The Secretary of Commerce, Matías Tombolini, stressed this Monday afternoon that the agreement reached with exporting refrigerators aims to provide certainty in terms of prices and in the provision of seven cuts with discounts of around 30%.
In a meeting led by the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, Tombolini said that they will seek to “guarantee” the provision of 15,000 tons of seven cuts of beef in the main marketing chains.
