Santo Domingo.- The National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) with the support of the Specialized Airport Security Corps and under the coordination of the Public Ministry, seized 18 packages presumably cocaine, at the Punta Cana International Airport, La Altagracia province.
Anti-narcotics agents, military personnel and members of intelligence agencies were carrying out verification tasks in the boarding area of the terminal, when the canine units alerted of foreign substances in the luggage.
Indeed, in the presence of a deputy prosecutor, a more rigorous inspection was carried out, occupying distributed in a suitcase and a backpack, the 18 packages of the substance that is presumed to be cocaine.
“Twelve (12) packages were seized inside the suitcase, while another six (6) blocks of white powder were seized in the backpack, with a preliminary weight of 18,90 kilograms,” the press release said.
A 31-year-old Aruban national was arrested for the case, who would travel on a commercial flight from the Punta Cana terminal to Brussels, Belgium.
The foreigner is already in the hands of the Public Ministry to be brought to justice for violating Law 50-88, on drugs and controlled substances.
The authorities have launched an investigation to determine if there are others involved in the frustrated shipment of the packages of the substance to Belgium, which were sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for the corresponding purposes.
