MIAMI, United States. – Cuban musician Arturo Sandoval will be one of the honorees at the 47th edition of the Kennedy Center Honors, according to advertisement Thursday, the institution that celebrates lifetime artistic achievement. Sandoval joins an illustrious list of this year’s honorees, including film director Francis Ford Coppola, rock band Grateful Dead, singer Bonnie Raitt and cultural institution The Apollo.
“I am deeply honored and humbled to receive this prestigious recognition from the Kennedy Center Honors,” Sandoval said“This recognition is an extraordinary milestone in my career and a testament to the support and encouragement I have received from my family, friends, colleagues and fans. Throughout my career, I have sought to create, perform and inspire with passion and integrity. The tribute ceremony will take place on December 8, 2024 at the Kennedy Center Opera House, in a celebration that will include performances and tributes by leading artists of NY, Hollywood and other art capitals.

Sandoval, renowned for his exceptional ability on the trumpet and flugelhorn, is also a dynamic pianist, percussionist and vocalist. His versatility and ability to blend diverse musical styles, including jazz, classical and Latin, have cemented his position as one of the most respected and admired musicians in his field.
The Cuban artist has been awarded 10 Grammy Awards, six Billboard Awards, an Emmy and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, awarded by former President Barack ObamaHe was also recently honored with a Grammy Award for lifetime achievement.
In its announcement, The Kennedy Center also remembered the “remarkable life story” of Sandoval, who “overcame political oppression in Cuba and found success on the international stage.”
“While opinions on who is the ‘best’ trumpet player in the world may vary depending on personal preferences and criteria, Arturo Sandoval is undoubtedly among the most respected and admired musicians in his field,” the institution said.
“He is, without a doubt, one of the world’s greatest entertainers, having been seen by millions performing live at the Oscars, the Grammys, the White House and at the industry’s most prestigious performing arts venues and festivals around the world,” The Kennedy Center concluded.
