The former ambassador of Nicaragua to the Organization of American States (OAS) Arthur McFields He highlighted his admiration for Monsignor Rolando Álvarez, the new political weight of the Daniel Ortega regime.

“They persecuted him, banned him and imprisoned him. Monsignor Rolando (Álvarez) continues to be a giant in the face of his small and cowardly jailers in Nicaragua,” the former diplomat highlighted through his Twitter account.

The former diplomat expressed to Article 66 that the bishop of the Diocese of Matagalpa has been “courageous, consistent and has been an inspiration in the midst of difficult times.”

He remarked that the religious “has been a beacon of hope with his example in the face of a cruel and inhuman dictatorship. In addition, he has been an example of courage, humility and simplicity ».

The Ortega dictatorship keeps 12 Catholic priests behind bars, ten accused and two already convicted. The accusation against Monsignor Álvarez became official on December 13 when the Prosecutor’s Office accused him of undermining national integrity and false news.
