The Permanent Commission on Education, Health, Science, Technology and Innovation of the National Assembly (AN) concludes 2024 with four bills approved in the first discussion, among which the Artificial Intelligence Law (AI) stands out, which will be carried to the Plenary of Parliament in the first quarter of next year. This was reported by the president of the parliamentary body, deputy José Villarroel, when presenting the management report of the commission under his charge.

On the other hand, Deputy Villarroel explained that the Special Commission to legislate on Social Networks and the Impact on the Population, especially on Girls, Boys and Adolescents, is working on the issue of young people who excessively use technological platforms, limiting their creation capabilities.

At another point, Villarroel reported that they are working on projects that will be submitted to first discussion soon, such as the proposed Industrial Property Law, which seeks to regulate and guarantee property rights. They are also advancing in the draft Copyright Law, Digital Identity Law, Smart Cities Law, Trademark Law and Communal Quality; as well as the Collective Trademark Law. The commission also discusses the draft Law on Space Activities and the Law for Mental Health, which is nourished by several regional regulations on this matter, such as those of Lara, Carabobo and Zulia.

The deputy commented that the commission he presides is also working on the Reform of the Infogovernment Law to unify the government’s criteria, installation and data; and the Digital Applications and High Performance Unification Bill, where a joint commission is proposed to deal with matters related to the social, technological and sports nature.
He highlighted that they are working on the proposal for the Bill for the Granting of National and International Scholarships in the National Educational System, the Education Law for the Military Sector, the Cardioprotected Zones Bill and the Bill for Dental Practices.

He recalled that a special commission, appointed by the Board of the Legislative Branch, is advancing the investigations into the acts of fascist violence that arose in the last electoral process of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), where positions of student representatives were elected. In this regard, he explained that they have already met with authorities from that study house, and the electoral commission, to review the challenges, deepen the investigations, and establish responsibilities.
