Article 19 condemns aggression against Sin Embargo journalists; demands investigation from the Prosecutor's Office

According to the complaint, the journalists were at the market to document the illegal sale of birds and other species when a merchant asked them to stop recording and delete the material. Upon request, the journalists tried to leave the place when they realized that they began to be followed.

When he left the market and found himself inside his vehicle, two people on a motorcycle violently blocked his path on 20 de Noviembre Avenue and began to hit the journalists. One of them was punched and kicked in the face and torso, resulting in visible injuries. Another reporter was hit in the head while trying to protect himself inside the vehicle.

The attackers demanded that the recorded materials be deleted, but when they found that the videos no longer existed, they continued with the attacks. Given the situation, the driver managed to accelerate the vehicle and escape from the scene.

Article 19 accused that the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office did not address the case under the framework of protection of freedom of expression, which the organization described as a serious omission. In this sense, he urged the authorities to guarantee a complete investigation and due protection for the victims of this attack.
