Art and rehabilitation: prisoners from Palmasola exhibit their creations at Expocruz

The stand of the Productive Penitentiary Center, located in the Bolivia Emprendedor pavilion of the fair exhibition, exhibits an admirable combination of art, effort and rehabilitation.

Two prisoners present their wood carvingswith a wide variety of products such as dice, religious images, wallets and snack boards. In addition, The women’s pavilion contributes with fabrics, bracelets and paintings.

For the first time, prisoners attend the fair, previously only civil servants participated. Irma Ríos, a social worker, explained that the initiative has been very well received.

“This is the first time we are in a pavilion, people come and there is a lot of acceptance, I invite you to come and believe in these stories of prisoners who are being rehabilitated and learning a trade. They go out with a court order from 3:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.“, Rios confirmed.

That’s if there are prices forfor all budgets, ranging from 5 to 4,500 bolivianos, and will be available at Expocruz until Sunday. Afterwards, they can be purchased at the former Post Office and at Viru Viru Airport.

“We have sold quite a lot, it is already the second replacement of work, we have already sold more than 15,000 bolivianos and everything goes to the artisans, each item has a name and code, then it is registered and The money goes to the person who made the craft.”said one of the prisoners.
