The Argentine president is under investigation for the crimes of aggravated robbery, money laundering, simulation of a punishable act, unlawful deprivation of liberty, among others.
The court of first instance in charge of controlling the Metropolitan Area of Caracas agreed to the measures of deprivation of liberty against the President of Argentina, Javier Milei; the Secretary General of the Presidency of Argentina, Karina Milei, and the Minister of National Security of that country, Patricia Bullricch.
According to a statement from the Supreme Court of Justice, the court’s decision was made in response to a request made by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in response to a criminal case against these Argentine officials.
They are facing criminal charges for aggravated robbery, money laundering, simulation of a punishable act, unlawful deprivation of liberty, unlawful interference in the operational safety of civil aviation, disabling of aircraft and association.
It is important to remember that a few days ago the Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, announced the appointment of two prosecutors for process the aforementioned order of arrest, for Milei’s connection to the theft of the Emtrasur plane and for crimes against humanity in accordance with universal jurisdiction contemplated in International Law.
Saab stated that based on what is established in the United Nations Convention against Organized Crime in its article 15, the possibility that the State party (in this case Venezuela) exercises its jurisdiction, not only as a form of defense, but also to establish criminal responsibilities in the territory where a certain crime was committed that affects its interests.
