The deputy and president of the Special Commission of the National Assembly (AN) for the Law of Amnesty and Democratic Coexistence, Jorge Arreaza, described the recently promulgated legal regulations as a great first step towards coexistence and a central axis for the national reunion.
He explained that, although a single law does not resolve the national complexity, this law provides fundamental tools for the unity and stability of the country.
“The country must stabilize, we must guarantee this national reunion, national unity, internally, politically, economically,” he highlighted during an interview on a radio station.
Next, he highlighted the work of reviewing files currently being carried out by the Public Ministry and the Supreme Court of Justice. He also indicated that the Bolivarian National Armed Forces carry out their case evaluation process, in accordance with their internal regulations. “I know that military justice is working and will announce its measures.”
The parliamentarian highlighted the intensity of the work carried out during the drafting of the legal instrument.
In this sense, Arreaza described deep discussion sessions where the articles were analyzed word by word and comma by comma to achieve consensus between sectors with contradictory positions.
According to the deputy, the Venezuelan spirit prevailed over ideological differences and this allowed permanent articulation with the justice system to be established and, through this monitoring commission, cases will be evaluated even beyond those strictly contemplated in the legal text.
Forgiveness and legal exclusions
The legislator was emphatic when remembering that the amnesty is an act of clemency aimed at those who confronted the State. However, he clarified that the rule maintains clear limits and exclusions for its applicability.
In this sense, he pointed out that “intentional homicide and serious violations of human rights are not part of the benefits established by law. The same occurs with the crimes of drug trafficking and corruption, which are exhaustively excluded” to protect the moral essence of the Venezuelan judicial system.
Geopolitics and economic sovereignty
Regarding the international panorama, Arreaza linked national unity with the defense of natural resources against external interests.
He recalled that the events of January 3 forced a deep reflection on national sovereignty.
The deputy noted that the United States appears to be rectifying a policy that he described as tragic and disorderly.
In his analysis, the reestablishment of solid commercial relations with historical partners must be based on mutual respect and the recognition of Venezuela as a sovereign country that manages its resources with transparency.
Overcoming the cycle of violence
Finally, Arreaza urged all sectors to adhere to the Constitution as the main tool for coexistence.
The deputy concluded that it is necessary to generate conditions of tolerance so that the country does not return to scenarios of extreme polarization.
To this end, the Bolivarian Government keeps the channels of dialogue open in order to heal the wounds caused by the blockade and guarantee a future of prosperity without foreign interference.
