Around 500 complaints filed with the Ombudsman from January to March 2022

A total of 465 complaints assigned about alleged violation of human rights in the Ombudsman’s Office, during the first three (3) months of this year 2022, the entity registers in the section of the Consolidated Statistical Bulletin of the website www.defensoría.gob .pa.

According to statistical data, the right to petition heads the list with 124 complaints of alleged violation, followed by the right to work with 94 complaints, due process (94); to health (44), right to equality and non-discrimination (20).

There are also complaints about the alleged violation of the right to life, the legal order, a healthy environment, the right to personal integrity, equality and non-discrimination, the right to justice, the rights of women, of migrants. , of people with disabilities, the right to water, to decent housing and the right to private property and education.

In addition to the complaints, from January to March 2022, the institution has received 1,902 procedures, including guidance (1,163), petition (107), management (131), consultation (55) and requests (36). It has also acted ex officio and as mediation. The regional offices of the Ombudsman with the highest number of complaints filed are Panama with (262), Penonomé in Coclé (88), Veraguas (62), Darién (44) and Colón (40).

The Ombudsman’s Office has tools available to citizens such as the MEMO virtual assistant that can be accessed through the website www.defensoria.gob.pa, an APP for all users and the free telephone line 127, which allow the reception of complaints and offer guidance.
