Army stops more than 15 thousand Haitians and seizes 2 million cigarettes on the border

Santo Domingo. The Army of the Dominican Republic (ERD) reported that in August it arrested More than 15 thousand Haitians in irregular migratory condition And confiscated More than 2 million cigarettes introduced to smugglingas part of their Border Interdiction Operations.

According to the official report of the ERD, these actions were executed between the 1 and August 31period in which they were also made available to the Public Ministry 71 people linked to undocumented and smuggling traffic.

Regarding immigration interdiction, the ERD said they were arrested 15,625 Haitian citizens With irregular status, who were delivered to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) For due repatriation process.

Also, during the operations different types of goods were illegally introduced to the country, including 2,251,385 cigarette unitsin addition to alcoholic beverages and other smuggling products.

The report also details the retention of 247 vehicles used in illicit activitiesamong which are: 3 buses, 10 trucks, 5 trucks, 14 cars, 14 jeepetas, 10 minibuses and 191 motorcycles.

In the same period, they were delivered to the Public Ministry 71 people: 65 for undocumented trafficking and 6 per smuggling.
