Soldiers of the Army of the Dominican Republic (ERD) seized 59,600 units of cigarettes of alleged contraband and detained a Dominican citizen in the municipality of Mao, Valverde province.
During the intervention, carried out at the Parador Félix, located in front of the Mao municipal cemetery, the black Toyota Highlander Jeep, license plate G543516, driven by Luis Miguel Ramos Cruz, of Dominican nationality, was detained, who was detained during the operation.
At the time of arrest, were found hidden in different parts of the vehicle, five (5) boxes and forty and eight (48) packages of Capital brand cigarettes, equivalent to 298 packages, 2,980 packs, for a total of 59,600 units.
The detainee, along with the illegal merchandise occupiedwas transferred to the headquarters of the 4th. ERD Infantry Brigade, for the corresponding purposes before the competent authorities.
THE ERD will maintain operations against merchandise smuggling and the trafficking of undocumented immigrants, strengthening security throughout the border region.
