Army frustrates two terrorist actions against military units in Norte de Santander

The Army confirmed that in a quick action by a group of soldiers, they succeeded in thwarting two terrorist actions that were initially planned to be carried out against the La Esmeralda military base, in the rural area of ​​Convención, and the La Esperanza military base, in the municipality of El Terra, North Santander.

Colonel Wilson Fredy Urrego Rodríguez, commander of the Rapid Deployment Force No. 3, told RCN Mundo that, “our soldiers realizing this violent intention, They enter into combat against these armed subjects”.

Likewise, the colonel said that in this way he managed to secure the sector and neutralize this threat, with which he sought to affect to the uniformed that carry out operations in the area and the community that travels through sectors surrounding the military unit.

The first event, which apparently was carried out by members of the ELN, occurred on the night of last Tuesday, July 26, when these subjects They located a truck loaded with cylinder-type explosive devices, to launch them from this place towards the Military Unit.

Likewise, the Army said that, “In the morning hours of this Wednesday, a group of soldiers from the Energy Operational Command No. 1, They located ten means of launching that had been installed to be used with explosive devices”.

The objective was to attack the facilities of the La Esperanza military base, in a rural area of ​​the municipality of El Tarra, Norte de Santander, apparently by members of the residual organized armed group of the Farc dissidences structure 33.

It is noteworthy that these subjects install the explosives so that, in a quick reaction of the soldiers, they are killed with a sniper or with the activation of explosive charges, said Colonel Wilson Fredy Urrego Rodríguez, commander of the Rapid Deployment Force No. 3.

The officer pointed out that will continue to carry out military operations in the region to find those responsible for these acts that violate Human Rights and violate International Humanitarian Law, and, in addition, affect the civilian population.
