The new president of the Senate, Alejandro Armenta Mier, rejected that Morena’s group had been fractured after his election, in which several of his fellow caucuses did not support him. “In a democracy, what is fundamental is not unanimity, but coincidences, he said, and announced that he will seek a meeting with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
However, the group of dissatisfied Morena legislators analyzes the repercussions of the support for its coordinator, Ricardo Monreal, from the opposition bloc, especially from Dante Delgado, leader of Movimiento Ciudadano (MC), and the fact that in the end it was fundamental for that Armenta achieved, in the third round of voting, the majority to access the position.
Armenta was interviewed yesterday morning, after making a protest, along with the other members of the Senate board, after the process in which the discontent and division between the senators of Morena was evident, since one part did not give him his vote, although they were present at the session, and César Cravioto decided not to attend.
Armenta maintained that his election was the result of a process democratic and legitimate
in which coincidences prevailed in the end.
– Will it be possible to restore unity among the senators of Morena and that there be no more grudges, after several denied their vote?
– Resentment can be a legitimate human feeling. In the Senate there is democratic life, tolerance, there must be respect, there must be the capacity for dialogue –he answered.
Regarding one of the demands of senators Higinio Martínez and José Narro, that he should seek a rapprochement of President López Obrador with that chamber and with the caucus, he maintained that he will do so immediately.
