Violence in Michoacán has intensified in recent weeks. At the end of June, the entity, governed by the Morenista Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, was one of the epicenters of insecurity, with the murder of Mayor Martha Laura Mendoza, a shooting, the burning of convenience stores and the alleged discovery of a “narcocampament”.
Likewise, the appearance of the “Purépecha de Libertad Michoacana” army, a new armed group that accuses the state authorities of alleged links with drug trafficking.
Michoacán is among the ten most violent entities in the country, by concentrating 5.6 % of the 10,767 malicious homicides registered between January and May.
The State is a territory in dispute of various criminal organizations, including the Sinaloa Cartel, the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel, the new Michoacan family, the Michoacan family, the United Cartels and the Gulf Cartel.
