A plainclothes policeman, his partner, his daughters, both minors, and his mother-in-law, were injured after a shooting attack perpetrated by unknown individuals in the city of Tirúa. The incident took place on Route P-72 in the La Herradura sector.
Sergeant Alejandro Riquelme, who belongs to the Public Order and Control area, was traveling in his private vehicle with his family in the direction of the city of Cañete at the time of the attack they received with firearms.
At the moment, it was detailed that his 7-year-old daughter was injured in the head, while the police officer received four bullet wounds.
After the attack, the sergeant arrived by his own means at the Cesfam of the Tirúa commune to be treated with his family and to assess the seriousness of his injuries. After being stabilized, the victims were referred to the Temuco Regional Hospital by means of a helicopter from the Eighth Police Zone, where they remain with a reserved diagnosis.
in conversation with Radio, the Chief of Police Zone VIII, General Juan Pablo Caneo, indicated that the police officer was in the vehicle with his partner, his two daughters and his mother-in-law, specifying that he was “attacked cunningly, violently and cowardly.”
Given the state of those affected, the General pointed out that “they were serious and in critical condition, and we hope that in Temuco they can be stabilized,” he declared. In the same way, the head of the VIII Carabineros Zone clarified that at the moment it is not known if the attack “was due to his condition as a policeman or that fact could have happened to any Chilean citizen who travels along a route.”
In addition, he added that “it seems there are single shells and also multiple shells, that is, shotgun ammunition and single ammunition.”
As a result of the attack, an extensive police operation was deployed to find the whereabouts of those responsible for the event and it is expected that the Minister of the Interior, Rodrigo Delgado, will arrive in the area in the next few hours to clarify the incident.
