MIAMI, United States. – Cuban scientist and activist Ariel Ruiz Urquiola ended his hunger and thirst strike this Friday night, after the publication of a press release issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The news broke during a live broadcast of the reporter CyberCuba Iliana Hernandez.
In this way, Ruiz Urquiola called off a hunger strike that lasted 12 days to demand that the United Nations pronounce on the violations of his human rights and those of his sister, professor Omara Isabel Ruiz Urquiola, whom the island’s regime prevents from to return to national territory.
The Cuban scientist, who accuses the Cuban Government of having inoculated him with HIVwas camping in front of Wilson Palace.
This Friday, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights assured that it has been following the case of Ruiz Urquiola for “several years.”
“The OHCHR takes note of the information provided by Mr. Urquiola about his situation and his brief has been transferred to the competent office. We call on the Cuban authorities to communicate with Mr. Urquiola and his sister and ensure that the situation is resolved in accordance with their obligations under international human rights law.” United Nations published in the newspaper Geneve Tribune.
