Ariel Ruiz Urquiola again in front of the UN after brief hospital admission

Madrid Spain.- Cuban biologist and opponent Ariel Ruiz Urquiola returned this Tuesday to the hunger and thirst strike in front of the Palais Wilson in Geneva (Switzerland), where the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights is based, after a brief emergency admission on Monday .

“Yesterday I really came close to losing consciousness and was taken to Geneva University Hospital. Now I am back in the same place, ”she recounted through a social media video.

“I continue in my peaceful protest demanding a firm statement from the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on the flagrant violations of the human rights of Omara Isabel Ruiz Urquiola and Ariel Ruiz Urquiola. (…) Here I am again until my body endures, ”she declared.

Urquiola had been hospitalized on Monday for a cardiovascular problem. Because of this situation, he agreed to receive parenteral rehydration to stabilize his heart rate, but he made it clear that he was continuing the strike at the hospital.

Ariel Ruiz Urquiola declared a hunger and thirst strike on July 4 with the aim of demanding the intervention of the United Nations before the prohibition of the Cuban regime to enter the Island to her sister, the activist Omara Ruiz Urquiola.

In addition to keeping during all these days without ingesting food or water, the scientist also suppressed the medications of his HIV treatment, which was diagnosed almost three years ago, for which his life is in constant danger.

Last Friday was published on the Change.org platform a petition for the UN to rule in favor of the Ruiz Urquiola brothers.

“A fighter for human rights has been on a hunger and thirst strike since 7:30 am on Monday, July 4, in front of the Wilson Palace (United Nations in Geneva). His name is Ariel Ruiz Urquiola. He is Cuban and is demanding that the UN rule on his violated human rights, those of his family and the Cuban people in general. If he does not pronounce himself he is willing to leave the body. He asks the United Nations to intervene in favor of his sister Omara Ruiz Urquiola, who was prevented by the Cuban government from returning to the island after completing cancer treatment,” the petition states.
