The engineer Ariel Hughes, vice president of the National Association of Parents of Official and Private Schools of Panama, addressed this Tuesday the current situation of several educational establishments that present damage to their infrastructure, and asserted that the educational system in our country is bad and is in “intensive care”.
He added that it seems illogical to him that in 24 months (2 years), during the pandemic, the Ministry of Education (Meduca) has not made the pertinent improvements. “They had locked the boys up in virtuality due to the health emergency. We cannot debate that, what we are debating is how, two years after a health emergency, the schools are not ready,” he said.
“Here we see that there is no planning or strategy to solve this problem, we go from excuse to excuse. We are not harming the children, the one who is harming them is the one who does not plan, the one who does not solve it and does not fix it, we should not accept the least bad, and I think this is the least bad . Two years and we still have serious problems,” he maintained.
He commented that it is no secret to anyone that there is no maintenance system as such. “There is a structure department and they maintain the schools, but the maintenance is not preventive.”
