The mayor of La Paz, Iván Arias, denounced interference in the case of the Vesty Pakos Biopark after the Ministry of Environment and Water announced a process against the municipality of La Paz. Days ago the death of 80 animals inside the biopark was announced.
“Intolerable interference!! They want to take over something where they don’t even put a crumb. Politicking and extremism that only seek to destroy a work. Shielded by clarified accusations, faster than the ostrich, they want to rob a La Paz property,” wrote the La Paz mayor.

Arias quoted a publication from Page Seven Digital in which it is informed about the announcement of the Government referring to processes against the Mayor’s Office of La Paz.
On the occasion, the general director of Biodiversity and Protected Areas of the Ministry of the Environment, Omar Yumaa, pointed out that “the municipality is not taking the proper precautions, it is not being responsible, we are initiating a process against the Mayor’s Office for negligence and biocide.”
In the last week, the Mayor’s Office of La Paz reported that from January to May 50 animals died in the biopark, of these, 40 were lizards, according to a press release from the mayor’s office.
However, the ministry assured that there were 88 animals that lost their lives.
On Wednesday, the municipal biopark, in an inspection with a group of journalists, reported that the deaths of animals were due to natural causes, due to illness or old age and “not due to negligence” of the municipal administration as the Government affirms.
