The formation, innovation and social impact of women in their environment is the conductive thread of female empowerment and leadership development


In a context where women face significant challenges in Venezuelan society, the Mobile ARI of The rebel alliance investigates The whistle, Runrunes and SuchWhich It shows two initiatives that stand out for their focus on resilience and innovation: Civil Association Women and Citizenship and circular fashion venture Top closet.

The efforts of both seek female empowerment in challenging environments through leadership and sustainability.

Female leadership in popular markets

The work of the Women and Citizenship organization is more than 17 years promoting the training of women’s skills, seeking to promote their participation and leadership in society. Starting from this Aixa Armas approach, director of this NGO and Ernestina Herrera, a journalist and writer, decided to go to popular markets to know and provide the formation of this organization to women merchants and workers in this sector.

The pilot test of this proposal is developed in the Chacao market where More than 70% of workers are men. The objective is to make visible and empower the working women of the markets. “This work seeks to make these women make visible,” said the journalist.

The training activities of the organization in sectors such as markets, known for the little participation of women, seeks to develop women’s leadership through training and support. Likewise, it seeks to transform the lives of these women, helping them to diversify their products and improve their economic situation. “They are leaders, but they don’t know. They don’t know the ability, leadership they have”Ernestina Herrera shared.

Women as promoters of sustainability and economic independence

Top Closet, is an initiative that was born in 2020 in response to economic difficulties that its founder Andrea Garnica lived. At present, Garnica has turned his challenging situation into a profitable and sustainable business opportunity based on circular fashion.

The Top Closet business model is based on the sale of second -hand clothing through the use of social networks. The concept allows anyone interested in selling their closet for various reasons to contact its founder and offer their clothing.

Thanks to various strategies developed by garnica, closet sales are usually successful for both vendors and buyers. From its beginnings to the present Top Closet It has sold around 9,000 pieces, involving more than 850 closet owners.

The success of this business model has motivated its founder to open A franchise structurewhere franchisees have the opportunity to be “His own boss” generating income from home and contributing to the local economy. “The franchisees have cried me. Woman and citizenship and top closet are initiatives that not only seek to improve the economic situation of women and their environment through novel strategies, but also to strengthen their self -esteem, resilience and leadership.
