The Argentine ambassador to the United States, Jorge Argüello, confirmed that the bilateral meeting between the Argentine president, Alberto Fernández; and the American, Joe Biden is “confirmed” and said that it is “imminent”, after the suspension in July due to a coronavirus picture of the North American president.
“The meeting is confirmed, it is imminent. In the coming weeks, President Alberto Fernández will be visiting Washington. We still need to define the date, but we are already working on what the joint declaration that the presidents are going to issue will contain,” the official said. this Saturday in statements to CNN Radio.
Argüello maintained that “everything was prepared” for the meeting that was going to take place on July 26, but “it had to be suspended because Biden tested positive for Covid-19, it was rescheduled, but he tested positive again.”
“I am optimistic so I think that the third time will be the charm. Let’s not rule out that the President travels to the United States twice in the coming weeks: the first for the inauguration of the United Nations General Assembly on September 20. In that occasion, there will be a series of events in New York for one day, and then we are going to move to Houston where the President will offer a mega presentation on the potentialities and growth of Vaca Muerta before what is called in Texas the oil family, 60 companies, many of which already invest in Argentina,” the ambassador specified.
At this point, he explained that another meeting that could take place within the framework of the UN “usually takes place for five minutes, but the intention in this case is to have a long work meeting, so we are talking about two meetings of a different nature.”
In addition, he highlighted the importance of the visit that Economy Minister Sergio Massa has been making to the United States since last Tuesday: “We have had dozens of meetings and the result is positive,” he remarked.
“It is the first visit he has made abroad, so I would say that the visit is the message. Not only because of the importance of the bilateral relationship but also because Washington is the headquarters of the multilateral credit organizations and he had three important meetings one with the World Bank, another with the IDB and the third will be with the IMF” next Monday, said the ambassador.
