Argimón assured that the continuity of the INDDHH is not in question

This Monday, April 4, Argimón received the president of the Human Rights Institution and Ombudsman’s Office (INDDHH), Juan Faroppa.

After the meeting, Argimón highlighted the importance of the creation of the INDDHH, and recalled that both participated in the drafting of the Law that created it.

The president of the General Assembly said that the Institution has had an increase in terms of responsibilities, and highlighted its relationship with the Legislative Power.

“It seems to us that when they turn ten years old, it is important to carry out an evaluation regarding their functioning and how their work is perceived. The INDDHH is drafting the report that they make on an annual basis,” he said.

He explained that aspects such as “improving the link” were analyzed, and the assessments of some legislators on the report of the Institution against the LUC that came out in the middle of the referendum campaign and that at the time they had already made it in Commission, during the debate of the LUC bill in Parliament”.

“We were struck by the way in which it was transferred to public opinion and also the characteristics of that report,” said the government chief.

Argimón expressed his intention to modify the Law that created the INDDHH, but said that its continuity is not in question.

In this sense, he recalled that the closing of activities for the current period of the INDDHH Board of Directors will be on August 31, and he said that the steps to follow regarding the new nominations of the future members of the INDDHH are being communicated to the political parties. Institution, what must be analyzed by a special Commission is from both chambers.
