Argentine producers. Juan Crespo and Renato Miariwho together with Paul and Daniel Monzoncilio are working on the pre-production of a series of eight episodes focused on the intimate life of former president Juan Domingo Perónspoke with this agency from the Iberseries Platino Industria market in the city of Madrid, where they are taking the proposal to different platforms with the intention of “starting production and being able to film in the second half of next year.”
“We came here to promote this idea that we started working on a year ago since, chatting among the four of us, it emerged that a Perón series had never been made with the focus that we want to give it, around his personal life, his childhood, their experiences and adventures”, added Crespo from this second edition of the event that brings together the different sectors of the Ibero-American audiovisual industry.
In that sense, the project -in which Damián De Santo sounds like the actor who would take the leading role- also plans to revolve around the love story between Perón and Eva Duartefrom its beginnings, when he was a military man on the rise and she an actress with ambitions, and framed in the context of post-war socio-cultural changes, as well as throughout the construction of political power -with its chiaroscuro- that the then president led and bequeathed to the present.
In addition, the producers pointed out that the search will be to give an agile and dynamic treatment to the narrative, in which the personal stories are intertwined with the national situation of that time, and include intrigues, romances, rivalries and a human and personal point of view.
“The political events are already known to everyone, but few know about his personal life. We hired a historian to help with teamwork and for the script (which is in charge of Marisa Quiroga together with Clarisa Lea Place and César Bustamante), and the truth is that we are finding very interesting things. You may or may not like Perón, but he is still a very great personality and we found facts about his personal life that captivated us, and motivated us to move forward and continue with this,” Crespo said.
Among those who have already joined the project are Fernando Sulichin and Maximilien Arvelaiztwo of the members of the production team of the renowned American filmmaker Oliver Stonewhom Crespo and Miari also seek to incorporate into the series in the executive producer role.
“We were talking to them from different parts of the world, because they travel constantly, in different Zoom meetings, and really we were surprised to realize the particular interest that Oliver has for the figure of Perón. What stood out for him was this part of the adventure that the story has, and the psychological plot, a thriller. We didn’t have to make too much effort, it was very special,” Miari explained on her side about the approach to Sulichin and Arvelaiz.
Along these lines, Crespo commented that “they really liked the idea shortly before Iberseries began”, and that “with that force” they came to the market to propose the content to the platforms: “They are all there, this market grew a lot in relation to Last year, all the great players in Latin America are there, there are permanent meetings and the truth is that the outlook for development is very good. We are doing very well,” concluded the producer.
